Endurance Isn't Always the Answer

Everyone loves a good endurance story. Odysseus wandering for 20 years. Moses in the desert for 40. That friend who finally got sober after decades of trying.

We're drawn to these tales of persistence because they remind us what humans can withstand. But here's what fascinates me: The best stories aren't just about enduring. They're about adapting.

Like bamboo versus oak in a storm - endurance is about standing rigid against forces, while resilience is about finding new ways to move with them. One breaks, the other bends and grows back stronger.

I see this pattern everywhere: in recovery rooms, in cycling groups, in corporate leadership. People confusing persistence with adaptation, mistaking grinding for growth. They're so focused on powering through that they miss the signals asking them to shift position.

Sometimes the most resilient thing we can do is stop enduring and start adapting.
